An amazing weekend

The weekend started on thursday, I had booked the day off so that i had plenty of time to travel to london and get settled in my hotel. it was a lovely hotel and the aircon was such a relief after battling through the muggy underground! I had arranged to meet another cdt friend of mine there, he was in the same cohort as me whilst training as a CDT. he was running late though so I sat for a while drinking a nice cold guinness as I watched the world go by outside. When he did turn up he looked a little flustered. He had found a bag and wallet on the train which contained about £200 cash a few cards and other personal belongings, so Andy had tried to get it back to its owner. Andy contacted the credit card company and explained that he had found the bag and could they pass on his details. It transpired that the man who had lost the bag lived very near to my friend and after chatting on the phone to him, the man booked up for a new set of dentures! Well that good deed of the day certainly paid off!

we finished our beers and headed out to find somewhere to eat, and as we left we bumped into three other CDT friends, all from the same cohort as us. What a surprise! and they too where just going out to find somewhere to eat. we found a nice little indian restaurant and had a really good night out. I didn’t drink too much because I had a course to do the very next day!

The reason I had gone to london was because I had an advanced implant course on the friday, which increased my scope of practice to allow me to remove and place dental implant abutments. This is a very useful step forward for me and all CDT’s that do the course, especially for those of us who see a lot of implant cases. you can find out more about our implant treatments >>here<<

We also did a teeth whitening course which now allows us to carry out teeth whitening. The patient still has to see a dentist first to make sure that all the teeth and gums are in a good condition before the treatment is started. So until cdts can carry out this treatment without a dentist, I think i’ll just leave it to mark! Find out more about our teeth whitening >>here<<

I got back home on the friday night and then it was back out again on saturday to one of my brothers house because he was having a barbecue. it was a bit wet but still great fun! I left the party a bit earlier than the others because I have to small children who were starting to get grumpy and then I spent the whole day sunday just relaxing. Perfect!

Implant Information Sheet

I’ve just started work on a new Implant information booklet.I get asked a lot of questions while consulting on dental implants and it seems that the same questions keep cropping up time and time again. It is such a diverse subject and from talking to my clients I have realised that they find it hard to get the information that they really need and it is also difficult to find a reliable source of information too as many seem to differ on facts or opinions. The new booklet that i’m writing will address all of these issues and will shed light on why implants can differ wildly in price and will also cover all the different types and who they are suited to. Another trip to London

Dental Implant Sections for DenturesI’m off to london tomorrow for another blast of advanced dental training. The course will increase my scope of practice so that i will be able to place and remove dental implant abutments which will be really helpful in speeding up some of the implant treatments that we offer here at the Smiles Centre. Another aspect of this weekends course will be x-ray prescriptions. Although i’m a qualified radiographer, at the moment I can only take a radiograph under the prescription of a dentist. This isn’t really an issue because the dentists just take the x-rays themselves, but, we are getting a large x-ray unit installed soon which will be used for implant cases and when that is up and running I will be able to screen patients right away, without the need for them to travel to get the special x-ray.

I’m really looking forward to this weekend too, and hopefully catch up with some old friends while i’m there!

Why Our Customer Service Isn’t Good

We have always provided good service or so I thought. To be fair, as a 15 year old company, we have always provided a good service but a couple of years ago it came to my attention that good isn’t good enough. Why do we accept “good” service? Our service should be exceptional! Our customers are the most important factor in our business and they have chosen to come to us and spend their money, from that moment, our attitude has changed and we always strive to achieve exceptional customer care. Hopefully, our customers recognise our efforts, it certainly seems so as we are getting thank you notes and compliments on our Facebook page. Here is a copy of a couple of messages received just this week;

“Brought my mum to smiles a few weeks ago as she was going to have to wait ages to get a new tooth fixed on her denture but you did it within the hour. She left with a big smile on her face, a very happy lady. Thank you to all the amazing staff at smiles. Will recommend smiles to anyone”

“Brilliant.  I should like an appointment then.  I am very impressed by the advertising of your company and hopeful to finally have some truly competent dentistry care”

“Thank you Stuart, you are very kind and attentive, a rare treat these days! I shall give the clinic a call in the morning and make an appointment.Thanks again for your help and correspondence, I look forward to my Smiles visit 🙂 “

This is just three simple notes but we get more, sometimes our patients have life changing treatment and they are especially lovely to read. For me this is the most rewarding part of my job and shows that the team we have working at Smiles are exceptional and are providing the level of care that our customers deserve.

All team members have been set up to start blogging. however, you will need to set your own avatar. goto and register you smilescentre email address and add the image from the folder [dropbox/smilescentre/images/staff] and find your picture.

It only takes a minute, but, once done it will make the blogs look much nicer and we can see at a glance who has written the blog.
