Dental Surgery Treatments Explained

Removing Wisdom Teeth

If your wisdom teeth are impacted, thereby preventing adequate oral hygiene, it's often best to have them removed. Teeth that erupt in an upright and functional position often don't need to be removed. Wisdom can also cause a lot of pain and need to be removed for this reason. Most dental practices in Swindon will refer to the hospital but Smiles Centre can undertake this treatment as part of your private dentistry care.

Cosmetic Gum Sculpting

Also referred to as gum reshaping, this cosmetic procedure is usually undertaken to enhance the patients appearance, for example, if they are unhappy with a high gum line. It is a largely pain-free procedure but may be sore, tender and inflamed after the procedure has been completed, typically, this takes a few days.

Periodontal Surgery

Sometimes extensive perio treatment isn't enough and periodontal surgery may be used as a way to overcome serious conditions of periodontitis. People with severe or advanced disease around their gums and the tissues that support their teeth are usually acceptable for surgery but it is always best to discuss in a consultation with the oral surgeon.
