Denture Cleaning – The Proper Way

How to clean Your Dentures

Are you cleaning your dentures properly? Most people are not! – If the dentures are damaged during the cleaning process it’s very likely that they will become stained, and are much more likely to fracture.

However, this is usually due to the overuse of bleaching agents, which are found in most denture cleaning products.

Avoiding this can be done in an easy step-by-step process…

Prepare your station

First, gather all the essentials you’ll need in this routine (as listed above).

Using a denture brush will allow you to clean the dentures of any denture adhesive and possible food remnants – effectively. If you don’t have a denture brush, no worries, use a soft tooth brush like the ones made specifically for children (as these brushes tend to be the softest).

If don’t have a cleaning paste for your dentures, again no worries as there’s always a good alternative such as, you can always use a low PH soap. Be sure that any soap you use has a neutral PH, otherwise you’re at risk of damaging your denture.

Here are some other things to avoid when practising denture care; be sure check this out to avoid causing long-term damage to your dentures/remaining teeth.

Your denture cleaning tablets will be used as a cleaner for when your dentures are left to soak at night.

Using a denture brush – correctly

When using a denture brush, use the larger side/longer bristles to clean the outside, and the smaller brush side of the brush to clean the inside. This is why it’s better to use an actual denture brush if possible.

When soaking your dentures at night, don’t use warm/hot water as this can alter the shape of your dentures. Instead, use cold water.

You too can take advantage of this cleaning regime by following our simple 3 step denture cleaning rule:

  1. Brushing twice a day.
  2. Disinfecting twice a week.
  3. Descaling twice a month.
